Digital Disrupter joins Discovery Parks Board

Digital marketing expert Paul McCarney has been appointed to Discovery Parks’ Board, supporting the company’s plans to become most digitally advanced operator in the sector.

A digital and data pioneer, Paul is the Co-Founder and Chairman of Data Republic, Non-Executive Director of Trade Me and Cirrus Media and was previously a Non-Executive Director of iiNet.

Paul McCarney joins other Non-Executive Directors Grant Hunt and Anouk Darling, along with Director Johan Krynauw and Chair Adrian Loader.

Discovery Parks Chair Adrian Loader said that the rise of e-commerce has changed the way that people research and book travel, making digital strategy a critical pillar of the business.

“Increased digital capability means strengthened customer relationship and loyalty strategies, and the ability to take our e-commerce plans to the next level,” said Adrian.

Paul McCarney said that he sees strong potential to grow Discovery’s market leadership through a smarter and more intuitive digital presence.

“With 265 parks across both the Discovery and Top Parks brands, Discovery has the lions share of the market. However, caravan and holiday park customers are changing; millennials are increasingly interested in this type of travel and older demographics are becoming more digitally connected than ever before.”

“I’m looking forward to working with the Board, and team, to really understand the people behind our data, shape our relationships, and deliver better experiences for our customers,” said Paul.

Discovery Parks CEO Grant Wilckens said that Paul is an entrepreneur with a proven track record of digital innovation.

“With 65 Discovery Parks and 200 Top Parks, and ambitious plans to continue to acquire and develop properties, our growth trajectory continues. Paul will be a great asset to us on that journey,” said Grant.

Paul commenced as Non-Executive Director at Discovery Parks on 3 May.
